Amped A-MX Size & Age Guide

Fit matters more than the birthday on the calendar. Use the rider's height, inside leg, strength and experience to decide between the 520mm A-MX 10 and 560mm A-MX 12.

Quick answer

Which A-MX size should you choose?

Choose the A-MX 10 when its lower seat, shorter chassis, lighter weight and gentler first mode give the rider better control. Choose the A-MX 12 only when the rider needs more space and can confidently manage its extra weight and performance.

There is no reliable age-only answer. Children of the same age vary significantly in size, strength, coordination and riding experience. The model that fits safely now is normally a better choice than sizing up for future growth.

How to assess rider fit at home

1

Measure

Measure the rider's standing height and inside leg without shoes. Compare the inside leg with the quoted seat height, remembering that suspension settles slightly under the rider's weight.

2

Check strength

The rider should be able to hold the bike upright, correct a lean and operate the controls without strain. These 26–28.5kg bikes are much more substantial than basic balance bikes.

3

Check control

They need to reach both brake levers, use the twist throttle progressively and consistently follow instructions. Touching the ground alone does not prove the bike is suitable.

Decision checklist

Signs each model is the better fit

Choose the A-MX 10 when...

  • The 520mm seat gives a more secure riding position.
  • The rider benefits from a 3.7mph learning mode.
  • They are moving up from a smaller electric bike.
  • The 26kg chassis is already a meaningful step up.
  • The shorter 860mm wheelbase feels better proportioned.

Choose the A-MX 12 when...

  • The A-MX 10 would genuinely feel cramped.
  • The rider fits a 560mm seat comfortably.
  • They can manage approximately 28.5kg with confidence.
  • They already brake and use the throttle progressively.
  • They have the experience for its higher starting and maximum speeds.

Inside-leg guidance

Seat height is a reference—not a required inside leg

The rider does not necessarily need both feet completely flat. Suspension compression, boot thickness, seat width and experience all change how tall a bike feels.

  • A newer rider normally benefits from more confident ground contact.
  • A capable rider may be comfortable touching with the balls of both feet.
  • The rider must still remain balanced while reaching the bars and brakes.
  • Never rely on tiptoe contact if the bike's weight overwhelms the rider.
Liam's recommendation

Do not buy the bigger model simply to make it last longer

A bike that is too tall, heavy or fast can slow development rather than help it. The A-MX 10 already offers substantial performance and is often the better choice while a rider builds genuine dirt-bike control. Step to the A-MX 12 when their current size and ability justify it—not just because it has the larger number.

Common sizing questions

Amped A-MX size and age FAQ

What age is the Amped A-MX 10 for?

There is no single safe age recommendation because rider size and experience vary. The A-MX 10 is the smaller model, with a 520mm seat, approximately 26kg weight and a 3.7mph first mode. Check those figures against the individual rider.

What age is the Amped A-MX 12 for?

The A-MX 12 is intended for a taller, developing rider who needs its 560mm seat and can manage a roughly 28.5kg machine. Its first mode begins at 6.2mph and its higher modes offer serious performance, so ability matters as much as age.

Should both feet be flat on the ground?

Not necessarily, particularly for an experienced rider, but a beginner benefits from secure ground contact. The rider must be able to balance the bike, reach the controls and stop without being overwhelmed by its weight.

Can I choose the A-MX 12 so the rider grows into it?

Only if it fits and can be controlled safely now. Buying too large can make starting, stopping and recovering from a lean unnecessarily difficult. The selectable modes control speed; they cannot correct poor physical fit.

Can the speed be limited?

Yes. Both bikes have five selectable modes and Mode 1 can be locked using the WUXING DZ40 display. This supports progression but does not replace adult supervision, suitable protective equipment or correct sizing.

Where can an A-MX be ridden?

These are off-road bikes for suitable private land with the landowner's permission. They are not for public roads, pavements, parks or public cycle routes.
