If your Revvi electric bike will not switch on, the cause may be something straightforward such as a flat battery, loose connection, power switch issue or damaged wiring. Work through these checks before replacing any parts.

This guide covers common power faults affecting the Revvi electric bike range, including the Revvi 12, Revvi 16, Revvi 16 Plus, Revvi 16 XL, Revvi 18, Revvi 20, Revvi 20 Plus and Revvi 24.

Exact battery connections, switches and electrical components differ between models, so always check the instructions supplied with your particular bike.

Before You Begin

Stop if you notice battery damage Do not continue testing or using a battery that is swollen, cracked, leaking, unusually hot, producing a smell or showing signs of water or impact damage. Do not open the battery casing or attempt internal repairs.

Place the bike on stable ground with the rear wheel clear of people and objects. Make sure the throttle cannot be pressed accidentally while carrying out checks.

How to Diagnose a Revvi That Will Not Turn On

Make Sure the Battery Is Charged

A battery may appear connected correctly but still be too discharged to power the bike. Connect it to the correct Revvi charger and check whether the charger indicates that charging has started.

Leave it connected for the recommended charging period, then disconnect the charger and try switching the bike on again.

Check the Battery Power Switch

Some Revvi batteries have their own power switch or button. Make sure the battery itself is switched on before using the bike's handlebar controls.

Depending on the model, the battery may also have an indicator showing its remaining charge. If no battery lights appear, the battery may be discharged or require testing.

Remove and Refit the Battery

Switch everything off before removing the battery. Inspect the battery terminals and mounting area, then refit it firmly and make sure it is fully seated and locked into position where applicable.

A battery that appears installed but is not making full contact may prevent the bike from powering on.

  • Check that the battery is fitted the correct way around.
  • Make sure the connector is fully inserted.
  • Look for bent, recessed or dirty terminals.
  • Check that the battery is not moving excessively in its mount.

Inspect the Main Battery Connector

Follow the cable from the battery towards the bike and locate the main electrical connection. Make sure the plug is fully joined and has not pulled apart during transport, storage or riding.

Check for:

  • Loose or disconnected plugs
  • Bent or damaged pins
  • Water or corrosion inside the connector
  • Burn marks or melted plastic
  • Crushed, split or exposed wiring

Check the Handlebar Power Button or Display

On models fitted with a handlebar display or power button, press and hold the power button for a few seconds rather than tapping it quickly.

Inspect the display cable and the wiring near the handlebars. Cables can occasionally become pulled, pinched or disconnected after the handlebars have been assembled, adjusted or turned sharply.

If the display remains completely blank despite a charged battery, the display, switch, wiring or controller connection may require further testing.

Check the Wiring Around the Handlebars

Follow the throttle and display cables from the handlebars towards the frame. Look for plugs that have separated or wires that have become trapped during assembly.

  • Check around the handlebar stem and steering area.
  • Make sure cables are not stretched when the bars are turned.
  • Look for crushed wiring beneath cable ties or covers.
  • Confirm that colour-coded connectors are properly joined.

Do not pull connectors apart by their wires. Hold the plastic connector body when disconnecting or reconnecting plugs.

Check for a Brake Cut-Off Issue

Some electric bikes use brake safety sensors that interrupt motor power while a brake lever is applied. On relevant models, a damaged brake lever, trapped cable or faulty brake sensor may prevent normal operation.

This is more likely where the bike powers on normally but will not move when the throttle is pressed. It is less likely to be the cause where the display and battery lights remain completely blank.

Check for Water or Moisture

If the bike has recently been ridden in heavy rain, washed with a hose or stored somewhere damp, moisture may have entered a connector or electrical component.

Switch the bike off, disconnect the battery where safe to do so and allow the bike to dry thoroughly in a ventilated indoor area before testing it again.

Do not reconnect visibly wet components Do not use heaters, heat guns or hairdryers directly on the battery or electrical connectors.

Check the Battery Voltage

A voltage reading can help establish whether the battery is supplying power. Only carry this out if you are confident using a suitable multimeter and know which terminals should be tested.

Do not allow the test probes to touch each other while connected to the battery. If you are unsure, arrange for the battery to be checked rather than attempting the test yourself.

Warranty or technical enquiry We may ask for a photograph clearly showing the voltage reading together with a photograph of the battery batch or serial label.

Consider the Controller or Power Switch

If the battery is charged, the connectors are secure and the display remains completely blank, the fault may involve the power switch, display, wiring loom or controller.

These components should not be replaced purely by guesswork. The battery and wiring should be checked first because different faults can produce similar symptoms.

Does the Bike Turn On but Not Move?

If the battery lights or display illuminate but the motor does not respond, the bike does not have a complete power failure. The fault may instead involve:

  • The throttle connection
  • A brake cut-off sensor
  • The selected speed mode
  • A loose motor connector
  • The controller
  • The motor itself

Check whether the display shows an error code, whether the bike makes any warning sounds and whether the motor attempts to engage.

Why is my Revvi completely dead?

The most common causes are a discharged battery, battery switch being off, loose main power connection, battery not seated correctly or an electrical fault involving the battery, display or controller.

Why does my Revvi battery show charge but the bike will not switch on?

Check that the battery is fitted securely and that the main power and display connectors are fully joined. A battery indicator does not necessarily confirm that power is reaching the bike's controller or display.

Why does my Revvi display turn on but the throttle not work?

The problem may involve the throttle connector, brake cut-off sensor, motor connector, controller or motor. Check for error codes and inspect the relevant connections before replacing parts.

Can a loose wire stop a Revvi from turning on?
