Amped A20 Electric Balance Bike – Quick Overview

Best for: riders aged approximately 7–12+ years old.

Ideal rider height: riders around 120–145cm.

    Seat height: approximately 65–75cm.

    Motor: 540W electric motor.

    Ride modes: Eco 9.3mph / Boost 19.8mph.

Why parents choose it: larger 20” platform, smooth power delivery and more room to grow than smaller Amped models.

Our view: a brilliant progression bike before stepping into full Pro-level performance.

The Amped A20 is the natural step up from smaller Amped electric bikes. It gives riders more size, more power and more room to grow, without jumping straight into the more aggressive A20 Pro.

With a 540W motor, 20” platform, direct-drive rear hub motor and two simple ride modes, the A20 is built for progressing riders who want a bigger, smoother and more capable electric bike.

In terms of sizing, the Amped A20 is best suited to riders around 120–145cm tall. This makes it a strong choice for children who have outgrown smaller 16” bikes but may not need the extra aggression of the A20 Pro.

Not sure if this is the right model? Read our best place to buy Amped A20 guide, compare the Amped A16 vs A20, or view our Amped A20 vs A20 Pro comparison.

My Take as a British MX Rider

The Amped A20 is where kids electric bikes start feeling much closer to a proper lightweight off-road bike rather than just a smaller balance bike with power.

The bigger 20” platform, smooth direct-drive setup and stronger overall feel make it a confidence-inspiring progression bike for riders stepping up from smaller models.

The key sizing point is height. If the rider is around 120–145cm tall, the A20 is a great fit. If they are already towards the taller end and very confident, the A20 Pro may be worth considering instead.

For most riders aged around 6–12+ and around 120–145cm tall, this is one of the best all-round progression bikes in the Amped range.

    Amped A20 Bundles

Best value: many riders choose an Amped A20 bundle when buying a larger progression electric bike.

The Amped A20 bundle collection can include useful extras such as riding gear, accessories or extended ride-time packages depending on availability.

    Why Choose the Amped A20?

    540W Power

A strong step up in power for riders who have outgrown smaller Amped models.

    Ideal 120–145cm Fit

A great size for growing riders who need a bigger, more stable 20” electric bike.

    20” Platform

More size, stability and room to grow than the A10, A16 and A16 Pro models.

    Direct Drive Hub Motor

Quiet, smooth and low-maintenance power with no chain or sprocket to adjust.

    Two Ride Modes

Eco mode keeps things controlled, while Boost unlocks the full 540W performance.

    Progression Without Pro-Level Aggression

Ideal for riders who want more size and speed without jumping straight to the A20 Pro.

Amped A20 vs Revvi 18 vs Amped A20 Pro

Model Recommended Rider Height Best For Shop / Compare
Amped A20 Approx. 120–145cm Riders who want a larger, smooth and steady 20” progression bike. Shop A20

Amped A20 Pro Approx. 125–150cm Confident riders who want the larger, more performance-focused 20” option. View A20 Pro

The Revvi 18 is worth considering if your rider prefers a rear suspension setup. The Amped A20 Pro is the natural upsell if your rider is already confident and ready for a bigger performance-focused bike.

    Ride Modes

    Mode Speed Best For
Eco 9.3mph / 15km/h Controlled riding, confidence building and extended range
Boost 19.8mph / 32km/h Full 540W performance for confident riders

The twist grip throttle keeps control intuitive and natural from the first ride.

    Direct Drive. Silent. Low Maintenance.

The rear hub motor on the Amped A20 is a direct-drive system, meaning power goes straight to the back wheel with no chain, no sprocket wear and virtually no mechanical noise.

This creates a cleaner, quieter ride with less maintenance and less to adjust over time.

Combined with 28Nm of torque, acceleration feels smooth, predictable and confidence-inspiring rather than aggressive or intimidating.

    Battery, Range & Ride Time

The Amped A20 uses a removable 36V 5.0Ah lithium battery, providing approximately 45–60 minutes of ride time per charge.

Eco mode significantly extends battery life compared to Boost mode, making it ideal for younger or less experienced riders.

Charge time is approximately 3–6 hours using the included 36V 2A charger.

For families wanting gear or ride-time package options, browse the Amped A20 electric bike bundles.

Please note: the Amped A20 is not designed for wet conditions.

Where Does the Amped A20 Fit in the Range?

The Amped A20 sits above the A16 and A16 Pro as the larger 20” progression bike. It is the steadier, smoother choice before moving into the higher-performance Amped A20 Pro.

Is the Amped A20 Right for Your Rider?

    Choose A20 If...

    • Your rider is around 120–145cm tall
    • Your rider is aged around 6–12+
    • You want a bigger 20” platform
    • You want more size and speed than the A16
    • You want progression without jumping straight to the A20 Pro
    • You want a smoother direct-drive bike with simple maintenance

    • You want rear suspension: consider the Revvi 18
    • Your rider is already very confident
    • Your rider is closer to 145–150cm tall
    • You want stronger performance
    • You want the more aggressive 20” Amped option

    Important Assembly Notice

Amped Bikes accepts no responsibility for damage caused by incorrect assembly. Revvi full-face helmet sizes

How to measure

Measure around the widest part of the rider's head. The tape should pass above the eyebrows and ears and around the fullest part at the back of the head.

SizeHead circumference
XS, Extra Small48 to 50cm
S, Small51 to 54cm
M, Medium55 to 58cm
L, Large59 to 61cm

Always choose by the rider's actual head measurement, not by age. Head shape can also affect how a helmet fits.

Between sizes? Do not automatically choose a larger helmet for growing room. A helmet must fit securely now. If the rider falls between sizes, check the fit carefully before use.

Amped AMP-1 helmet sizes

How to measure

Measure around the widest part of the rider's head. The tape should pass above the eyebrows and ears and around the fullest part at the back of the head.

SizeHead circumference
M, Medium54 to 58cm
L, Large58 to 62cm

Always choose by the rider's actual head measurement, not by age. Head shape can also affect how a helmet fits.

Measuring exactly 58cm? That falls in both sizes. Fit varies with head shape, so check the measurement and that the helmet sits securely before use. Do not choose a loose helmet to allow growing room.

Choosing a size

The Revvi Kids Riding Jersey comes in dedicated sizes for younger children and growing youth riders. Select the size before adding it to your basket.

YL, Youth LargeAges 10 to 11

Ages are a guide only. Consider the child's height, build and preferred fit too.

Between sizes? If the rider is between sizes, still growing or likely to wear a base layer underneath, the larger size may be more comfortable.

Kids riding jersey sizes

How to measure

Compare these with a jersey or long-sleeve top that already fits the rider well. Chest width is measured across the front with the jersey laid flat, so it is half the full chest.

Ages are a guide only. The chest width and body length are the best way to choose.

Riding glove sizes

How to measure

Palm: straight across the widest part of the palm, not including the thumb.
Length: from the base of the wrist to the tip of the longest finger.

YM, Youth MediumYouth Medium8.5cm14cm

Use the measurements rather than age alone. Hand shapes vary, so check both wherever possible. Once fitted, make sure the rider can comfortably use the throttle, brakes and every handlebar control.

Between sizes? The larger size usually gives a more comfortable fit and a little growing room, but the glove must not get in the way of safe control of the bike.
